Music Vibes: Strong Enough by Cher
I got today's title from one of my newest friends, Frankie Metzger of Dark Barbie's Beauty Parlor. It's funny how people inspire you in the most unexpected ways. Frankie & I have been longtime FB friends with similar interests & FB groups, but we didn't meet until recently, after a couple of years of FB friendship. (It's a thing!) When we finally met, we became fast friends. She has done a couple of my friendship micro tattoos that I adore & her makeup looks are always so elegant for whatever occasion. Go give her website a look & add her on all of your socials!
Today's topic of conversation came up when I asked her for some advice on how I handled certain things in a FB group, and this was part of her response, Leadership, not bitchy." It was the nicest slap in the face because sometimes I'm so worried about hurting people's feelings that I allow that to prevent me from being a Leader. I want to be a kind & fair leader, but being a leader also means that you can't let others walk over you. Sometimes, you have to show that you have earned the right to be a leader by being fair, kind, & authoritative. You also need to be someone that people feel comfortable talking to & allow them to be heard. One of my flaws is sometimes I get combative and defensive instead of just listening & hearing. I notice this and am actively working to be a better different and keeping all of the amazing qualities I already have.
Being a boss bitch means that people feel comfortable being around you, but they also respect boundaries & structure being set in place. I have learned many of my "management" lessons by watching others lead in a way I didn't respect. I've seen managers play favorites. I've seen people let the word "manager" get to their head & they acted like that gave them the right to be rude & talk down to others. I've seen people complain about money in front of people who made less than them. I have seen "managers" throw literal temper tantrums because they didn't get their way. I've seen "managers" talk about employees behind their backs to other employees. I've seen dishonesty and greed in managers who never appreciated their employees' hard work.

Leadership is having the courage to stand your ground but also leading and guiding with a compassionate heart. Be humble; just because you have the fancy job title doesn't mean you are above anyone and you're not more important to them. Leadership is doing what's best for the company as a whole, including the employees who work so hard with you to keep it up and running. Leadership can be firm and loving. Leadership is teaching someone how to do something in a way they'll comprehend instead of commanding them to do it without any real direction.
Leadership is not bitchy!
Neither humans nor animals will want to take your direction if they feel like they can't trust you to do what's best for them. Trust is essential to life. You have to trust your body to do what you need it to. You have to trust the person you're in a friendship or relationship with to have your best interest in mind. You have to trust that even through the shit times, things are still going to work out. Just as much, you need to trust the people you work for and work with. Nobody wants to make someone else money if they are forced to work in a toxic, unhappy workplace.
I'm using all of the knowledge I've gained from the companies I've worked with to implement in the build of Beautiful Disaster Lit. I remember & use the practices I did daily, 40 hours a week. I am also building MY business, so I will run it the way I feel is best. I will run my business with the compassion that I needed during certain times of my employment history. Some employers gave it, and some showed no empathy.
Next time you're in a Leadership position, what type of leader are you going to be? What types of leaders have been your examples? Good or Bad? Remember, Leadership Is Not Bitchy. People are more likely to follow you if they trust your lead.
